Kleinsasser Art Studio

The Kleinsasser Art Studio was in the home of John “Penochle” Kleinsasser (on the corner of Fourth and Juniper Street). The photo shop and art studio was run by Elias Kleinsasser.

In 1925 Elias Kleinsasser started Kleinsasser Paint Shop on Fourth Street just west of Met Theatre. The business sold Warrior and Evered barn paint, along with truck, tractor, and implement paint.

Met Theatre

In the 1920’s Eli Kleinsasser started the Met Theatre.  The theater operated until the 1950’s.  The theater building was later torn down in 1970.

Eddie's Radio

From 1957 to 1964 Edwin Schmeichel serviced electronic equipment on his farm north of Freeman. In 1964 he moved his Radio & TV business Eddie’s Radio & TV to Freeman (corner of Fourth and Main Street) operating out of the Merchants Hotel building. After a fire in 1970, the business was moved west.  Edwin sold and serviced radios and TV’s; (Sylvaina, Channel Master, Sankyo, Imperial) and a complete line of Tappan microwave ovens.

Square Deal Garage

In 1919 Chas and Jake Schrag bought property on Fourth Street and built a garage.  In 1921 Julius J. Albrecht purchased the garage from Schrag Bros. and opened Square Deal Garage.  Julius repaired Model T’s and other types of gas engines.  His three sons; Fred, Harvey, and Felix all worked as mechanics.  By 1963 the boys took over the business.  Square Deal Garage operated into 1980’s.  The building was torn down in 2014.
